ok....i have a gateway fx7020,amd phenom 9600,500gbhd,3gb ram,nvidia gforce8800gt.
the power to my home was interupted yesterday and the comp. was on although not being used,it is on a surge protector.when power was restored, the comp would not power on at all,no lights, sounds ,nothing.so after some basic troubleshooting i was lead to replacing the power supply.well, that did not work imediatly....only after unpluging some connectors and replacing them did i have any results, only not what i expected.now i have a some times flashing sometimes steady on ORANGE light at power indicator and a VERY high pitch noise coming from this thing .....any ideas anyone plz

Sadly, surge protectors are little more than fancy extension cords and everyone should be on an UPS with AVR instead of surge protectors.
It sounds like more than the power supply was damaged - or your failed supply took out something else. Do make sure the new supply is connected properly, and that nothing else was knocked loose during the replacement process, including fans, keyboard, mouse, etc.
You should disconnect all unnecessary devices, all but one stick of RAM and see what happens. Please note that a solid tone coming from inside the computer case can indicate a bad CPU.
