Default Printer Settings Being Ignored

Default Printer Settings Being Ignored
I have set the default settings on my HP Deskjet930C to Portrait and A4. I have done the same on my Word and Excel Page set up. However, when I print, the format is landscape and "letter". To get A4 I have to select Print, Properties, Layout - check portrait, Advanced - select A4. Why doesn't Word or Excel use the printer default settings?
I am using Office 2003 and Windows XP.
Can anyone help

Are those existing documents? Or new?

The manufacturer's printer default is usually letter (8.5" x 11") except for special printers. If that is the manufacturer's default then every time you hit default it is reverting to that.

it sounds as if machine is ignoring makers drivers and using windows default try reloading drivers

@tradsville - you are welcome to help if able but you dredged up a long dormant thread. Please stick to current topics.
