Hello.
I'm on a laptop Aspire 7720-6152 (OS Vista Home Premium) and the problem is that it overheats and then suddenly turns off.
I had the same problem some time ago but it was fixed after I updated the BIOS to the latest version and it kept well for quite some time (several weeks, months or so). I can't suspect any cause, I don't know what brought back the problem.
Well, what I've had observed is that after passing the "Press F2 to enter BIOS" start screen and entering Vista, the fan at the main vent slows down but it never goes faster as it should be when it starts heating or running heavy stuff. When I'm at BIOS and before starting Windows the fan runs at a good speed.
Here's my DAL Hardware Scan results if it comes in handy.

You appear to be running two Anti-Virus software programs which is not recommended as it slows your system right down because they are competing with one another.
You need to choose just one.1.Panda Cloud Antivirus 01.00.00.0000 (Panda Security)
2.ESET Smart Security 3.0 3.0 (ESET, spol. s r. o.)
Best regards,
Good observation but I'm only running Panda's. I looked in "Uninstall or change a program" and I couldn't find ESET anymore. I uninstalled that one quite some time ago.
Odd that it is showing in your scan then, perhaps there are leftover registry items remaining?
Please download and run Revo Uninstaller. Does ESET show on the list in Revo, if it does follow the prompts to uninstall. Please be careful what options you choose.
kind regards,
Hah, did we do the same google searches?
I had already downloaded it and ran it. Doesn't show up on Revo's.
The DAL scan does have a history of detecting deep rooted registry entries not usually removed by uninstalling the program.
Comodo was one example.
See if your software has a custom uninstall program or just realize that the DAL scanner is picking up old registry items.

I don't want sound rude, but are we talking about old dead registry items such as my ESET (which I can't find any custom uninstaller for it or neither Revo's Uninstaller find ESET) or are we talking about overheating-turning off?
Okay, you are not rude, but we need to alleviate all prospects of errors here.....
How long is it since you cleaned out your dust bunnies? Geek to Live: Evacuate PC dust bunnies - Cleaning - Lifehacker Not usually a problem with Laptops, but if it is older, then I would get an IT professional to open it doing a check for you and at the same time look/enquire about your current problem.....We are a free service, but if the dust cleanout does not assist, then others may come by to offer their help.
