Would greatly appreciate any help with the following.

If running on battery the laptop switches off after 10-15 mins even though the battery meter shows 80%. If switched back on it will run again for 10-15 mins. If it is plugged into the mains it will run forever. It is approximately two years old.

I'd suggest a new battery.

I agree with Jephree that it could just be a duff battery. If the battery is going from 100% to 80% in just 10-15 minutes, that suggests that it's got a significantly lower capacity than when it was new. Some batteries only last a year or two - I've got an 18-month-old Dell laptop in my business which only runs for 20 minutes or less now.

I see that you're in the UK. I'd suggest checking out Ebay (use the part number on your existing battery to try to find a replacement) but only buy from a UK seller with a really good rating - not a cheap one from Hong Kong. If you aren't comfortable with Ebay, I would recommend www.battery.co.uk, who we've used many times.
