USB Plug-in
I know this may be a stupid question but I really don't know anything about computers. I've bought my boyfriend a Sharper Image 5 Day Weather Forecaster for Christmas. Well after I ordered and recieved it I noticed that it comes with a transmitter that you have to keep plugged into the USB port of the computer. Well he has a laptop that he carries all over the house and would not be able to keep this transmitter plugged into the laptop USB port. Is there anyway I can somehow plug this into the router or is there something I can buy that can connect to the router to plug it in to? Basically I need to somehow set up this transmitter to something besides the laptop but will still be connected to the wireless internet. Reason I'm asking all of this before just trying it is because if I need to go ahead and purchase some other equipment I would like to do so before giving the gift. Like I said...this may be something as simple as just being able to plug it in to the router itself but I have no clue. Please advise!!!

Sorry but plugging into the router won't help. As noted in the manual software is run on the computer and is used to gather the information, then send it to the display unit/receiver. The transmitter does not have to be plugged in all the time, but if not, then he will need to connect it periodically (daily, I would guess) and manually update the 5-day display. In order for the 5-day display unit to be automatically updated, it would have to be connected full time to a computer that has Internet access - either way, the transmitter must be attached to a computer that has the software installed on it. If there is more than one computer in the house, the transmitter could go on it - it does not have to be his laptop for him to see the forecast.

Welcome to D-A-L,
When you were purchasing it did you tell the salesman it was a gift and that your friend has a Laptop?
Here is a link for the manual which clearly states the software is not compatible with a Mac for instance! I hope he has a PC with a Windows OS installed.
I would do one of two things, take it back for a refund if the manual does not state how to set it up, or take it back to get more knowledge from the salesman who sold it to you giving him the information you have given us asking if it is compatible with your friends Laptop.
An awful thought, I hope you have not purchased it online.
Happy festive season to you,
kind regards,
