my computer says my dvd drive is running properly but does not read any cd i put in it. I installed a new dvd burner but it does the same thing.. any ideas? thanks

What exactly do you mean by: "I installed a new dvd burner"?

You installed new software? You installed new hardware?

this is a used computer so I dont know when it quit working. this is new hardware

What exactly happens when you insert a CD or DVD?

Is there an error message or is no disk detected?

my operating systems is xp professional..when I run diagnostics it tells me the cd burner is running nomally thanks for you help

Is there an error message of some sort?

One quick try is to go to the Device Manager and uninstall the drive then reboot the computer.

This forces XP to reinstall the drive.

Right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager. Click the + next to DVD/CD ROM drives and then right click your drive and "Uninstall" and then restart the computer.
