i have a gateway pc ..the power supply fried..i replaced it with a tested same model power supply..but before replacing the on/off switch would not power down the pc after pressing it for a few seconds..with the new power supply it still stays on and the pc does not respond to it..what could be the problem with it..i pulled the switch to make sure the connections are correct even on the mother board..the light stays on and it doesnt power down.
Could you be more specific, which switch did you pull? did you turn the power off at the wall or "pull" remove the power switch on the tower?.i pulled the switch to make sure the connections are correct even on the mother board..the light stays on and it doesnt power down.
I would turn off your computer, then replace the power switch on the tower as it appears to be faulty if I am reading your query correctly.
kind regards,
Using the on/off button in the front of the pc will not power down the pc...there is no response when the button is depressed and held down...so the only way i can shut off the pc is to unpug it from the source of electric..i checked the on/off switch the wires seem intack and the other end is seated firmly into the mother board.. When i put the power back the psu starts the fans blow but the pc wont boot and the power button in the front is constantly on...even if it is depress for several seconds
What is the state of the tower inside regarding dust bunnies?

my pc boots up normally it reads the hard drive and the floppy but doesnt read the cd rom...the light on the cd rom comes on , the draw for the cd opens and closes..but when i put a cd of any kind in ..the rom spins as if it is reading the cd then it stops ...i checked my computer on the pc and there is no sign of a cd rom...i swapped the cd rom with two other cd roms...that i know work and it still does the same thing..the pc doesnt recognize the cd rom...even though the rom is powered up...if i get the drivers for the model cd rom that i have how can i install them when the cd rom is not being recognized..i also went to the add new hardware to see if it would find the drivers on the hard drive but that didnt work ...either...what can i do to get the pc to read the cd rom...i have a dell opti-plex GX1
256 ram, pentium 2..millinium operating system..the pc runs good just cant get it to notice the cd rom.
Are all these issues with the very same computer?
