Help, 3.0 AMD QuadCore only running at 1.6ghz.
Hello, I have a "AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor Model HDZ940XCGIBOX"
on a "Foxconn A79A-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard"
powered by a "CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply"
6GB RAM = Patriot Viper 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
VIDEO = EVGA 896-P3-1260-AR GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3
BIOS is set to "Optimal Settings" and my system info tells me I have a 1.6ghz and it runs video games pretty sluggish.
All drivers are their latest versions.
-
Also those 3 sticks of DDR 1066 show as 800mhz on the post screen.
-
I would try to revert the manufacturer's settings to the default settings.

Is this a new build?
Did you ever have different readings?
Out of curiosity try CPU_Z and see what it reads:
CPUID
There is always a possibility of a bad motherboard which you should be able to RMA.
Do you have the latest BIOS on the board?
-
Here's a couple SS of my CPU-Z idk which tab you wanted to look at.
That is if it uploads.
-
All drivers and Bios and anything software related is updated.

Just to verify:
Do you have the latest BIOS? 782F1PO8 updated: 6/22/09

If you do have that BIOS try changing the CPU multiplier. Try x 10.0 for starters.

My FoxOne updater software says I have that version.. but released on 6/17/2009.
What on earth is the CPU multiplier?
I really should have just paid extra for the ASUS

Page 26 of the online manual lists your BIOS options in regards to clocking.
I assume you have the book?
If not you need to search your motherboard here (they do not offer direct links):

The CPU multiplier is the rate that the FSB is multplied.
Your CPU_Z shows a bus of 200 x 8 = 1600
Why the FSB is 200 I don't know. That appears strange.
On re-thought I would try to up the FSB. The manual shows you where these setting are and how to change them.
I also would search the CPU compatibility list:
Foxconn - Products: Motherboard
Which gives us:
Foxconn Support - CPU Support List
Yours appears as the last listed model.
I would suggest trying to contact Foxconn and if they cannot help try AMD.
