    Monitor Resolution Problem

I always set my widescreen monitor for 1680x1050 pixels. But I just got back from a trip, and turned my computer on, and the resolution was different. Now it won't let me set the resolution back to 1680x1050. The closest it will let me get it 1280x1024 or 1600x1200.
    Please advise. Thanks.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the manufacturer? If not, do this, and let us know if it works or not.

All my drivers are up to date. The problem just happened out of the blue. The graphics card is ATI Catalyst, Radeon 7000. I've rebooted and it does not solve anything.

Hi Derucksucks...Do you have the latest drivers for your Monitor installed or are you running just the default "Plug & Pray" from Microsoft? What type (make & model) of Monitor do you have?

As far as I know I'm just running the monitor plug and play. I'm running an extended desktop. My main monitor (I think this is the right info) is a Hanns-G HG216D Model No: HSG1034.

The other monitor, which I'm not having any problems with at all, is the dell monitor that came with my pc.

This is just a suggestion...I would go to Dell site and to Hanns site and get the drivers for the monitors. I also have dual monitors, a 23" Samsung and a 22" Samsung (Both Wide), and I installed the drivers for both so my PC (running WinXP SP3) knows what they are. On all the PC's at work I make sure, especially for the Wide Screens, to load the driver that either came with the Monitor or the latest from the manufacturers home page.

The Hanns-G website only has the driver for Vista, and I'm running XP. I'm not sure where the CD that came with the monitor or video card are. Why would I be able to change the resolution to 1680x1050 one day, and then not the next?

    Yep...you are right...from the Hans-g site...
There are no drivers needed for Windows XP, and in most cases Vista as well, the default monitor driver will work fine. You may need to update your video card drivers if you are unable to use the recommended resolution. Please contact your PC or video card manufacturer for assistance with this procedure if needed. If this does not resolve your issue or if you require further assistance, please contact Customer Service at 888-808-6789 and we will be happy to assist you.

Do you update your Video drivers with Windows Updates or did you get them from ATI? Have you tried uninstalling the Video card drivers then reinstalling them? Have you tried "System Restore" to a date prior to your issue?

When I turned my computer on today, the problem was gone, it seems to have resolved itself. Weird. But thank you for all your help.
