I have been trying to boot my computer from dos to the windows me operating system, since having experience trouble after "messing" with my A drive (rem/repl) the computer wont go pass restore boot record and now using the dos promps, doesnt allow me to change A:/ to C:/> what can I do since any drive (exceptA) is a bad command or invalid drive, jim

Is your hard drive detected by the POST when the PC boots? Go into the BIOS and ensure the hard disk is detected. What version of Windows was on there? How are you botting to DOS? If you boot to DOS and you have Windows NT/2000/XP and have an NTFS formatted partition then you won't be able to see the hard drive from DOS. Do you have a WIndows CD to boot from? You can then use the recovery console or repair utilities.

Duh, just saw it was ME. Ignore the bit about NTFS but do check the BIOS.

Thanks BIG T and DJ, youve ben a big help and I was able to find the problem, the idea of C:/ drive recognition lead me to also try other things I had found when I searched the problems of others in the forum,Altimately I re-ran my norton rescue and used the nav def disks and found at the end though no virus was found that suspect flaw in result " unable to connect to C: drive" ahha So I searched out the problem "unable to connect" and put the unit under a good lite on the bench and tracked down wires guess what ? I had been soo carefull but still not enough, "power wire" had "fallen" off from hd man I was so carefull not to effect anything that I missed it so place it back and re-boot walla (adj: pronounced WA-LA) .
