Problems at mains switch on
I have a DEL 4600 computer that gives no problems with start up provided I do no switch the mains off. Using the computers internal software to switch on and shut down there is absolutely no problem. On pressing the button on the front panel it starts up immediately and loads the operating system. The problem arises only when I switch the computer off at the mains overnight. In the morning I now find it takes around 5 minutes before there is any response from the computer with the usual momentary Led light up on the keyboard etc after which I can then press the button on the front panel and everything starts up in the normal way. If I try pressing the button before this initial LED response nothing happens, it then takes even longer before I get a response from the LED's
If the power is switched off for just a few minutes then on again there is no problem with switch on, the problem only arises when power is switched off for several hours. Can anyone put my mind at rest as to what is going on and how I can fix it.

First off why are you doing this?
The computer depends on a constant power supply.
What you are doing is draining the motherboard battery.
In the long run it is certainly cheaper to leave the computer plugged in.

Hi Jephree
Thank you very much for your reply. I must admit whilst I am quite at ease worrking down at component level on most electrical equipment I haven't a clue when it comes to the working relationship between the Motherboard and PSU in computers.
Having recently replaced the original CR2032 lithium battery on the DELL motherboard after nearly 6 years I had no reason to think that switching the mains power off would be draining the battery to any extent.
As this is a home computer used for a couple of hours or so a day (No Kids) it seemed to make sense to switch the power off both to the computer and modem when not in use partly to save on electricity "as I thought" but also from a recommended fire safety aspect to isolate from the mains all electrical equipment that is not in use.
