Emachine 420 standby light stays on
Hi everyone, i'm a newbie, so go easy on me.
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have an Emachine 420 and anytime i try to turn it on the orange standby light stays on, the monitor says there is no signal, but i hooked that up to my laptop and its working fine, there is power as the green led on the cd drive is on an that opens & closes fine. There are no start up beeps and no lights on on the keyboard.
Thanks in advance guys.

Is this a new problem?
Was it OK yesterday?
Did you move the computer or do anything else unusual?
Anyway the first suggestion is to open it up and re-seat your RAM.
Please read the ESD section here first:

Here is a bit of a silly video but it shows the basics as to RAM and slots etc.
Remove your RAM then put it back aka re-seating.

Hi Jephree,
Thanks very much for getting back to me. This is a new problem. The computer hasnt been moved and no new software of anything has been installed on it. I tried as you said and reseated the RAM, but still exact same problem. Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks for your help

Make sure that the main power connection is firmly connected to the board. It is the largest bundle of wires that goes from the power supple to the board. If that doesn't help remove all of the cards other that the graphics cards [if it has one], all but one stick of ram, the cpu, optical drive(s), hard drive(s), & floppy drive [if it has one]. When you disconnect the optical/floppy/hard drives all you really have to disconnect is the power line. Try turning on the system with one stick of ram at a time in the system. While you are at it use a flashlight and check for Blown, Burst and Leaking Motherboard Capacitors. Let us know the results.
