    Acer aspire motherboard help

I have got an acer aspire 5051 AWXM laptop. I want to replace the motherboard, can anyone tell me what motherboard is in this laptop? Also will any other motherboard from similar models work with this laptop? What motherboards from which laptops will fit this laptop?

Does anyone know where I can buy a used or new motherboard for this laptop?

    Look forward to any replies

The problem with notebooks is notebook makers are driven to make them smaller, lighter, and more powerful BUT, unlike PCs, notebook makers are not bound by industry standards for size and shape of the components within. PCs must conform to ATX Form Factor standards which dictate the shapes, sizes, electrical characteristics, and even screw and mounting hole locations. This means notebook makers can do what they want, and they do - which, in turn, means consumers are "stuck" with proprietary parts when they buy notebooks. This is why notebooks cost more upfront, are harder to maintain and repair, have VERY limited upgrade capabilities, and are more expensive to upgrade and repair.

Your best bet, if you can find one, is to get the exact same model number motherboard. That is a challenge in itself because you don't just go down to your local computer store and buy notebook motherboards. They are ALL OEM products made by the motherboard maker for that notebook maker. That said, finding the same revision number may be another challenge as even the same model number can have different integrated devices among the revisions, thus requiring a different set of drivers, and perhaps a fresh installation of the operating systems as the current OS installation on the hard drive may balk when it discovers all the new hardware.

Generally, if the motherboard fails on a notebook, unless new and under warranty, it would probably be better to look for a new notebook.

I suggest seeing what CPUz says you have for a motherboard, then plug that into Google and see what comes up.

BTW - posting the same question at the same time in multiple forums on the same site, or at different sites (NotebookReview.com - Acer Aspire Motherboard Help needed) is frowned upon as poor forum etiquette. It is called shotgun or cross-posting and is akin to spreading your family out across multiple checkout queues at a busy market in an attempt to reach the counter ahead of others who have been waiting patiently in line. It can tie up multiple resources (helpers) that could be used to help others, and can cause confusion for helpers seeing unexpected results, unaware of other suggestions. That may result in conflicting advice, and further damage to the computer. Therefore, it is recommended to seek help at one site at a time, moving to another only after the first has played out with no resolution.
