External Hard Drive Enclosure Problem
Just installed my new enclosure of my old F drive. The icon shows Local Disk F in "My Computer" and the "safely remove hardware" shows it as connected, but I cannot access the disk. I got an error message about parameters. HELP !!! Thank you.

Can you post the verbatim error message? Thanks.

Its an error box with blue bar "My Computer" ... there is a red circle with a white X ... message reads "F:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

I am not getting the auto play box and then a "This disk or device contains more than one type of content" ... "what would you like windows to do?" box where I choose "open folder to view files" ... like when I turn my other external drive G on. Thought this extra info may help.

Could the drive be the issue? It seems to be having the same problem in the new enclosure as when it was in the original enclosure. The drive runs steady (with the power light glowing steady) when it is plugged in and not connected to the USB, but when I connect it to the USB port in the computer it is having the same exact problem in the new enclosure as the old enclosure ... intermittent power loss. The power light flashes on and off instead of a steady glow. When I have some extra time, I will install my G drive in the new enclosure and if it runs properly, I will just have to assume it is a bad drive. Could this make sense and be the problem? Is there any method of salvaging any of the data off the bad disk?
Thank you.

An I/O Device error is certainly an indication of a bad drive and or connection.
In/Out error: basically "no connection" or nothing found to connect.
You could slave the drive in a working desktop to see if you can access it.
If you can you should be able to retrieve your data.
You can also run the manufacturers diagnostic on it.
