I recently upgraded my whole system and hadf to upgrade windows to vista 64 home prem.
To start with vista would not reconized my sata drive (even with the chipset drivers), so I had to install windies on an ide drive.
After this windows was able to locate the sata drive, so I installed vista again on this drive. Everything works fine.
I then removed my ide and tried booting with just the sata and all I could get to was searching dmi pool data / boot from cd/dvd..... then hang.
I reconnected my ide, but still nothing! Removed my sata and it would boot from the ide, plug in the sata and fine from both.
Problem is I don't want to have the ide connected!
I have tried numerous settings on the mobo...
Has anyone seen this problem before?

My system is:
gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R mb
Intel core 2 quad 9550
2x Ati rads hd 4850
creative sound card
1x ide 7200 hard drive
1x SATA2 7200 hard drive
OS Vista home prem 64
(all hardware updated)

Vista created its Boot Sector on the IDE drive.

The SATA drive has no boot sector hence cannot boot.

If you go back to a reinstall remove the IDE and try reinstalling to the SATA.

If you have multiple SATA ports you need to set the port # to the corresponding SATA drive.

You should be able to verify in the BIOS whether or not the BIOS reads the proper SATA drive as the boot drive.
