AUDIO INTERFACE : Digi002 problems when connected to 400 mbps Firewire express Card
Hey folks.
First time poster here and in a real pickle with my audio interface.
I recently got my new laptop (Acer Aspire - 4gb Ram, 500GB hard drive, 2,2 gHz/800Mb/2MB cache) and am using it for recording audio in a live environment.
I'm using a digidesign 002 rack (operates at a max of 24 bit and 96 Khz).
My laptop has no 1394 slot so I got an Express Card to interface the rack.
However, it is a 1394a card, and although this works fine on my desktop PC i get an error stating 'The system cannot get information from the Firewire quick enough'. Surely, 400mbps for 8 tracks of monaural audio should be more than enough?! It's extremely frustrating and I lost some work tonight during a gig.
Protools 8 and Vista don't seem to enjoy each others company either and I am having countless problems with that.
Anyone went through the same time and any suggestions? I've looked for a 1394 b (800mbps) express card but have found nothing.
Could this be a Vita problem? I am changing my laptop to XP tomorrow.
Thanks guys.
Brian

I am not familiar with your audio hardware but I would recommend not removing Vista for XP.
You say "New Laptop" and the first thing that comes to mind is if you alter the OS you will void any and all warranties.
Not to mention trying to find XP drivers for the basic things.
Not to mention needing an unused XP Product Key.
Not to mention trashing an @ $200 OS.

Hey mate.
Cheers for the reply. Vista and Protools (pro-audio editing software) still has loads of problems apparently.
Cheers for the link I'll check it out.
I use this laptop for recording only, so I don't have to worry about conflicts with other software. I've did this a few times with other PC's and they;ve worked fine.
Cheers.
