Help please - CMOS bad keyboard/mouse don't work

Hi all, am new here and need some help!

My pc has been unplugged for a few weeks while we were decorating. Now it freezes and says CMOS bad press F2 ...

but I can't press anything as it the keyboard won't work.

It boots to my log in on windows if I don't have the wireless hub for the mouse and keyboard plugged in, but obviously I can't type anything without that. Am stuck!

    Advice greatly appreciated.

You need to get a standard keyboard and mouse and use them. Then it should allow you to press F2.

My guess is the motherboard's battery is weak and the BIOS lost it's settings during that long down time. You may have to get a new battery - a couple $ at any battery/camera/watch counter.

Once you are able to boot into the CMOS setup menu, set the date and time, verify the drives are recognized, then "Save" and Exit. It should boot properly. Then from there, you can try your wireless stuff again, assuming their batteries are good too.

Thanks a lot for replying. I managed to get it half working. I've got the keyboard and mouse working BUT it still freezes on CMOS Bad, press F1 etc.

I can now use the keyboard, but not sure what to look for in the bios to look at the problem. I think it must have lost a setting and I need to switch it back on so that it accepts the mouse and keyboard properly?

Check the date and time and make sure they are correct. If you have one hard drive and one CD/DVD, make sure they are identified. Then make sure you "Save" and Exit.

You said, "I can now use the keyboard", but then in the next sentence said you lost a setting and it is not accepting the mouse and keyboard properly. So is the keyboard working? Or not?

If not, I would remove everything wireless and go wired. Then make sure your system boots fine and works fine. THEN you can set up your wireless keyboard and mouse again.

Sorry that wasn't very clear was it, it wouldn't boot up with the mouse and keyboard plugged in so I booted it without and plugged it all in afterwards and got it working. I pressed F2 and now everything seems normal. So hopefully, it was just a glitch that has fixed itself.

I did notice though that I now don't get the option of pressing F1 or F2 on start up, only F10 for recovery is showing. Is this because I pressed the F2?
