Pentium 4 HT replaced with Intel Core2 DUO?
Hi. First of all, i'm new here so would like to say "Hi..."
What i'd like some help with off of you kind people is, whether or not it is possible to replace my existing Pentium 4 HT processor with the more recent Intel Core2 DUO processor?
A mate is selling one and i'm obviously very interested to update my system with it, seeing as i've already updated the ram from 512mb to 2gb.
I have a Dell Dimension 3100 PC.
Here are some stats of the old and new processor + BIOS / motherboard info if helpful:
(..i've heard a lot of this depends on compatible sockets etc??)
MOTHERBOARD:
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HT
CPU Socket: LGA775
Processor Upgrade: ZIF Socket
Max CPU Speed: 4000 MHz
System Slots: 4 PCI
BIOS:
BIOS Version: DELL - 7
Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A03
BIOS Date: 10/08/05
BIOS Vendor: Dell Inc.
Version: A03
Release: 10/08/2005
BIOS Size: 512 KB
DMI Version 2.3 @000F0430
The new processor that I want to replace it with is:
Intel Core2 DUO E4600, 2.40Ghz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800 Mhz FSB
I've probably supplied way too much information, (or not enough of the right info needed to know if this is possible.)
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
