Sorry to sound like such a dumbass but whats a jumper and how do I set it to slave? Thanks in advance.

an exact awnser would depend on your make & model. if you dont have a manual, you can probly find one on line. anyway here is an overview of what jumpers look like/ are from maxtor. click on the link in the awnser box. on newer models you just use out of the box, they should be set to cable select, so you just place the slave on the slave connection, the middle plug on a master slave cable.

Also, if you don't have a manual, there's normally a diagram of the different jumper settings (i.e. which pins on the connector you need the jumper 'plug' on) actually printed on the label on the drive.
