Hello! I have an HP a6110n that i've wanted to upgrade the PSU on. I've checked out the specs and bought a psu (its a little large but still fits) and a new Nvidia 8600gt, but noticed the stock PSU has 20 pins leaving the last 4 unplugged on the mobo, and the new psu uses them all? Will using the new psu do anything bad to the motherboard? why would they have only a 20 pin connector for motherboard power and the new one a full 24? Thanks!
Motherboard
Manufacturer: Asus
Motherboard Name: M2N68-LA
HP/Compaq motherboard name: Narra2-GL8E
New PSU is a Thermaltake TR2 430W
Hi beamermt25 - sorry you've been left hanging. Did you get your answer?
Note that new supplies and motherboard use 24 - but if you look at that 24-Pin connector carefully, you should see the end 4 pins can break off, into a separate 4-pin plug. Some motherboards use that extra 4 elsewhere on the board, so you may have to look in the manual for where. Otherwise, you can just tie it back, so it stays out of the way of conducting materials, and front-to-back air flow.
