hard drive transfer help
I had a dell computer with windows xp on it well it got knocked off the desk and we couldnt get it running again. My son had important files for his buisness on the hard drive we bought a new computer from office max called a ZT Affinity 2005XI-32 which has vista on it. My son went to radio shack and they sold him a Mad Dog Hard Drive Enclosure and told him that all he had to do was connect this mad dog with old hard drive then usb cable to the new computer and to add new folder to desktop to download the old hard drive well only a couple of things have downloaded to the folder and none of them will open. He wants to know if anyone knows how to get the old hard drive to download everything to the new computer and how if he could remove vista and install windows xp instead. we thought we could just add the old hard drive as a slave but the plug ins are completely different on the new computer. thanks.

??????
Why don't you simply mount the "old" hard disk in the new Vista machine as a slave disk and transfer over anything salvageable?

I received your PM regarding this issue; (As stated in my signature, please keep topic information/replies contained in/to the topics on the forums.)
"thank you for the reply but the computer doesnt have anywhere to add another hard drive to it and the cables are completely different then the hard drive that is in the new computer right now. any suggestions would be greatful . and again thank you for the reply. tammy"
I've performed several searches on this ZT Affinity machine. Information is sparse other than places to buy one. The ZT site itself has sparse information. (I was trying to find the make and model of the motherboard in this machine to get the specs.)
The motherboard may have an interface (connector) for (E)IDE data (40 pin ribbon) cable connection. If it does, and the DELL hard disk is (E)IDE, you could connect the ribbon cable to this connector and recognize the hard disk in this manner. If this is accomplished, the data can be copied to the Vista machine.
