Several Problems with CD/DVD drives on XP & Vista
Hello! I have several questions to ask, I'm sorry to dump them all in one thread, but they've all happened very recently.
I have two computer, one that's 7 years old with XP and another that's a laptop and brand new with Vista on it.
The computers that has XP has several problems (the internet hardly ever connects, it might have something called a lovegate virus, the USB ports don't work...), but what I noticed even more recently than all of those problems is that the CD drive is acting strangely. It's about 5 years old with CD reading and burning capabilities, it's 40x12x48x, I've burned around two hundred CDs with it I'd imagine.
I burn CDs by opening up the CD drive from My Computer once I've inserted a blank CD and simply dragging files I want burned into it, but something weird is happening. I can drag small things like word documents and I could drag a folder file that was 30 MBs in but when I tried dragging a 100 MB program or even a 70 MBs worth of .zipped images, it said the transfer to the CD drive will take 7+ hours, yet for one 90 MB .avi file it would transfer in a reasonable amount of time (while a 250 MB .avi would take 7 hours), it's like it's picking and choosing files it will transfer. I don't understand this at all, can anyone please tell me what's going on and if there's something I can do to fix this? I don't have this problem dragging files from other drives back and forth, only to the CD drive. Taking large files from the CD to the computer is done at a normal speed, too.
Ok. My next questions are about my new laptop with Vista, it has no programs added to it yet and it has a DVD reader/writer and rewiter, I believe. (My 7 year old computer does not have DVD capabilities)
1) Why won't it display files inside a folder that's on a burned CD? When inserting a burned CD (done from my CD writer on XP), if it has a folder, the content inside the folder appears as empty. The CD I've inserted is shown as being almost full in Vista (an example: "66.6 MB free of 702 MB"), just like it really is, yet it has nothing to show for it expect an empty folder. There has only been one exception that I can see, which was with a folder that contained a bunch of zipped folders taht contained images inside. At first I thought this was because I might not have the proper programs to recognize the files, but when I removed them from the folder on my other computer and burned them again, not in a folder, the files will appear on my laptop... so that's not the problem.
2) When I place a burned CD in that contains music, all the files are listed as "track 1" "track 2" and so on, why can't it list the artist and song title like the burned CD originally did? This is incredibly frustrating and the files are only about 50 KBs each and seen as .cd files instead of .mp3 files they should be, when I go in Windows Media Player with these files and rip them to the computer as .mp3, they become the proper size and play properly, but still keep the "Track" title... is there anything I can do to change this? I don't want a computer filled with songs where I don't know the title and have to use Windows Media Player to constantly rip the files to my computer when I should need to do that.
Maybe I haven't set something up yet? I really haven't done anything besides installed Vista on my laptop, I haven't registered anything or set anything else up.
Those are all the questions I have, any suggestions for any of my problems would be hugely appreciated!

Welcome to techhelpforum.
Sorry for the delay in response. I've been off-line for more than two weeks, and I guess none of the other Tech's have had the chance to get here yet.

Firstly, if malware problems exist, they may be contributing to your CD problems. I recommend you first post a HijackThis log for review by our security experts. Once it's assured that your machine is "clean", then the CD problems can be addressed in this thread. Just enter a new post here stating the results from the Security forum.
Please follow the instructions here> HiJackThis prerequisites, and then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs Forum. (Please do Not post logs in this section/forum).
If there isn't a timely response, then try;
Following the instructions here (at our "Sister Site")> HiJackThis prerequisites, and then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs Forum. (Again, please do Not post logs in this section/forum).
