Monitor turns off when I insert graphics card
Hello there. I recently obtained an ATI Radeo x1800 GTO graphics card. I went to go install it (my motherboard is a Gigabyte S series and my processor is AMD).
When I place the card into the PCI Express slot and turn on the computer, the monitor won't recieve a signal, and i can't view anything. I remove the card, and it works fine again. Any advice on how to get the thing to turn on and make the card work?

Hi,
What video card did you have before? Was it an onboard video port? If so, you need to enter the BIOS and change the video setting to use the PCI port for your video.

HI,
After my initial post I checked and found out that the graphics card you are using is an AGP card and not PCI as you specified. Therefore in the BIOS you need to select AGP for your graphics input.
Please post any results or further questions.

One thing to remember do not put a new video card in your computer until you (either an onboard, AGP, PCI, or pci-e) enter the device manager (start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager) and go to the display adapter area with the old one working and open that area with a click on the + sign. Then, right click and DISABLE the old video card. Then, shut down and install your new card...then enter the bios setup menu and select the option for the type of your new card, reboot and when it comes up install the new drivers. That should get you going.

A PCI-E card exists....

But as previously stated, select the appropriate video setting in the bios for the card/architecture you have.
