    Onboard video trouble

    Alright here's my problem:

I have installed a Diamond Radeon 9250 video card (PCI Version), and I have installed all the drivers/software for it. The video card I am replacing utilized the AGP slot and I never had any problem like the one below.

After installing the software I rebooted my PC, entered the BIOS, and selected my Primary VGA BIOS to be "PCI VGA Card" instead of "Onboard VGA." According to my user's manual, this is the field that lets me select my primary graphics card. I save the changes, exit, and restart.

When I connect my monitor to my new video card my monitor stays black. If I connect the monitor back to the onboard video connector I get video. It's like it ignores the setting in BIOS.

In windows, under Device Manager, it has my video card listed under Display Adapters and says it's working properly, but if i hook my monitor up to the video card, windows treats it as a second monitor for Extended Desktop. I do have a "unknown device" in the Device Manager for VGA Adapter and I can't get a driver associated with it. I've tried disabling the unknown device but it doesn't have any effect (or that I can see).

So my basic question is: How do I really disabled my motherboard from using the onboard video connector?

Here's some info on the computer:

    Motherboard: ASUS P4S800-MX
    Video Card: Diamond Radeon 9250
    Processor: P4 2.4GHz
    Memory: 1GB
O/S: Windows XP Home Edition SP 2

Thank you in advance for any assistance. This is really starting to annoy me. :-?

You are doing fine, except for a couple of mis-steps along the way.

    > What you need to do is take your new card out of the computer.

    > get your old card working first with the bios setup menu set for the regular AGP video card for this to work.

Note: When you get that done and have it up and working, then you can proceed.

    > Enter the Device Manager (start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager), go to the Video Adapter and click the + sign.

    > Then find and DISABLE the AGP video card listed in there.

    > Shut Down.

    > Install your new card.

    > Enter the Bios setup menu.

    > Change AGP to PCI in the video options.

    > Save the changes made.

    > After saving and it comes up, then add those new drivers.

    That should get you going.
