My cd dvd rewriter isn't reading dvd's when I insert a dvd with files on it and go to my computer then click on the Icon it shows nothing. however if i insert a cd the files all show up.

It was working ok but now its not recognising dvds can anyone help I'd be grateful. it does read commercial dvds but not my own ones with files and it was reading these before

Also if I leave a dvd with files in the rewriter ie overnight when i boot the computer the files do show up, but if i take it out then put it back in it shows no files, strange I cant figure it out.

I just burned a dvd in it, and the burn was succesful so when i trie to play it nothing showed up. I am at my wits end can anyone please Help me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it an old drive? If so, the laser may be wearing out and this can effect the types of discs it can read.

No its only18 months old, it was playing well. it still works wit commerial dvds and cds no problem but no longer reads other dvds with files i've tried all sorts to remedy this but i cant get it to play them
