    Mother board prob

I have a BFG nforce 4 ultra mobo and just recently my SATA drive failed. So i got a new SATA drive and hooked it up and booted up the computer . Now this the odd thing my mobo will read the hard drive but when i install or try to install window's it will get to the formatting screen it just freeze's.Ive tried all the rest of the sata plug's on the board went thru bio's and everything seem's to be ok and yes i have the never version of xphome with sp2. Im pretty sure the sata plugs on the board are gone im just not certain about the IDE plug on the board if thats fried or what not . Should i just take a chance get an IDE HD or just get another board?

During XP install, you MUST hit F6 when prompted to install SCSI/3rd party controller drivers (I forget the exact working but it is close to that). Then, when prompted you insert the disk for the SATA drivers. You need to look on the motherboard utility disk for SATA drivers and the instructions on how to make a disk. This is normally done on a floppy (just another reason why I still always include a floppy drive on my new builds) but BFG may have provided a CD option. This is necessary because SATA drives were not commonplace when XP was written.

You certainly can get an IDE drive and XP will install on that without the hassles of the extra controller driver disk, but your new SATA drive is already there, and is a newer technology.
