USB Storage Device Problems
I have been using a 1 gigabyte USB storage device with no problems until now. I'm getting a message that the disk is unformatted?? When I check through Device Manager it says the device is working normally but it is obviously not working. Is there anything I can do?
-
Have you tried plugging it in multiple times?
Have you tried it on different computers?
-
Yes to both questions. Same result in a second computer
-
Unfortunately it could be the drive.
Where do you get this Format message?
How is it defined under Disk Management?
Is it seen as "unallocated"?
-
I get the unformatted message when I click on the device in Windows explorer. I'm not sure where disk manager is.
I haven't seen anything that said "unallocated.
What I can't understand is the device was working fine one minute and the next (literally) it had this problem. It wasn't removed, bumped etc.
I hate to think how much stuff I've lost if this isn't recoverable!

right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management
-
It shows as 128MB disk online "Healthy"
It really is a 1 gigabyte device though.
The troubleshooting option doesn't seem to help.
-
Is it seen as 100% Free?
128MB is Total (Capacity)?
-
Under properties it shows Type: Removable disk
Flie system: RAW
Used Space: 0 bytes
Free Space: 0 bytes
Capacity: 0 bytes
Doesn't seem logical??
-
Only logical if it were broken or empty. Sorry. Reformatting would test the difference but I understand you have data involved.
Back under Disk Management:
Is it seen as 100% Free?
128MB is Total (Capacity)?
What is the file type there?
