    Question about Max memory

Hello all! I just purchased a used Dell Latitude C640 Laptop and it is apparently coming with 256MB of RAM and a 10GB hard drive. I got a great deal on the comp so I have some money to sink into the RAM and Hard Drive. But doesn anybody know what the max is for this model of computer? I just dont want to purchase more than is necessary is all.

The C640 lets you choose fast Pentium 4-M processors at 1.6GHz, 1.7GHz, 1.8GHz, 2GHz, or 2.2GHz speeds. Memory ranges from 128MB to 1GHz; you should get at least 256MB, if not more. Hard drives range from 20GB to 40GB. The Latitude C640 we tested included a 2GHz Pentium 4-M, 256MB of memory, and a DVD/CD-RW combo drive.

XP will run on it. 256MB RAM is a minimum. 512MB would be much better. More than that probably wouldn't help this machine.

The hard drive size is almost as critical. XP also uses the free space on the hard drive for memory (Virtual memory/Page file).

If 40GB is the max then get one! Again XP will run on a 10GB drive but it will get cramped fast i.e slow.

Awesome. Thank you for your help. I guess Im set to go until it's time to start installing the New OS on each of my new comps and as well installing the RAM and hard drive too! :yippee:
