    Unhappy New CD rom trouble

    Hi,
i just bought a new Pioneer DVR-112D (DVD/CD writer Lecteur DE DVD/ CD DVD-/ CD-Writer) and when i get it hooked up and everything i start it up and it brings me to a " detecting hardware" black screen then after a few it takes me to a black screen that says "Reboot and select proper boot Device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key_". It came with a cd called Nero 7 essentials "bundle with hardware only" but it don't help get pass that screen. I tried running my Windows xp home edition cd in it and nothing..tried reseting it and nothing happens but that black screen but the text is gone. I thought it was loading so i gave it some time and then it just reseted it self and then brought the text up again. When i put the old CD rom in it boots up and lets me log in windows and works fine but when i switch back it goes to the screen again. Can anyone please help, thanks

By the way my Computer Specs are list below.

    Computer:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
    6400 @2.13GHz
2.13 GHz, 1.00 GB or RAM
    Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS
If you need anymore info on my computer or the cd drive then please ask
    thanks again

The "Detecting Hardware" is a message from your BIOS correct? Not Windows?

I would guess that you have inadvertently altered the Boot Menu in the BIOS.

The behavior indicates that no boot device is being detected.

Are you using the same connection on the DVD as your old CD? Secondary Master I would presume?

I have played with the boot device when i couldn't get pass that black screen. It has the same connection as the previous cd rom that was in there. you have any ideas boss? Should i try to default the boot up system?

I would verify in your BIOS Setup that your hard drive is set as the first boot device.

Are all these drives IDE? If so your hard drive is Primary Master? The DVD/CD is Secondary Master?

Alright i gave it a try jephree but still no luck..i thought i was looking good but it went back to its old black screen saying"Reboot and select proper boot Device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key_". hmm If i just formated my hardrive and reboot windows xp on it with the new cd rom installed you think it might work?

I think that is a bit extreme at this point.

Did you not say the XP CD would not boot?

    Also:

Are all these drives IDE? If so your hard drive is Primary Master? The DVD/CD is Secondary Master?

Your hard drive should be at the end of one ribbon. Primary Master.

The DVD/CD drive is usually at the end of a second ribbon. Secondary Master.

If they are on the same ribbon make sure the jumpers on the rear of the DVD drive are set to Slave.
