    Computer out of range

I dont know why my computer keep out of range. When I turn on my computer for about 30-45 minutes then suddenly my monitor didn't receive a signal, all black and a message said "Out of Range", then my computer froze. It happened even I am not play online game. Once I manually turned off and left for 20 minutes then I can restart my computer and use for another 30 minutes. My computer is Windows XP Prof., SP2, AMD Athlon 1800+, 1.5GHz, 768 RAM, ATI graphic card(bought 4 months ago), and 80GB HDD. Does anyone know what's wrong with my computer? Your help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Was there ever a time when it worked OK?

Is it old? Have you ever cleaned it?

What you describe sounds like a heat problem.

Does the graphics card have a fan?

What is the make and model of the graphics card?

Do you have multiple monitors setup or a TV out?

It did work in the last 3 weeks but not anymore. Last time I cleaned was in April. Yes, my graphic card does have a fan and it still work fine. Graphic card is ATI, Radeon X1300 series. Monitor is not setup for a TV out or dual monitors. I used one monitor.

That error indicates that the computer is sending the monitor a signal that the monitor cannot handle. This usually refers to screen size (resolution).

What is your screen resolution? You might try lowering it to see if this makes a difference.

These settings are under: Control Panel > Display > Settings

Thank you very much, Jephree! Your help solved my problem. I lowered my resolution, and it turned out great now. No more problem on out of range. Again, thank you. ~ Whytedragon
