    laptop touch pad

I installed a Microsoft wireless mouse to use at times instead of built-in touch pad and after installation the icon for touch pad settings is gone and the touch pad does not work as before. The MS mouse works fine when transmitter is plugged into a port but I would like the touch pad to work as before when mouse is not connected. I have looked all over for touch pad controls but they seem to have dissappeared totally. Not sure if this is the right place to post but will start here. My computer is a Sony Vio with XP.

    Thanks, Stan

Have you rebooted the computer with the mouse disconnected?

    jephree,
I have had this problem for about a month, rebooted numerous times. When you go to control panel under mouse all there is, is the heading for MS mouse, nothing about touch pad. The touch pad still works, but you can not adjust anything about it, even the icon at the bottom disappeared. When I installed the mouse I thought everything would stay the same only when I had mouse plugged in would things change. This is kind of like the problem deleting files not a big deal but annoying, I would like to get my touch pad adjustment back.

    Thanks, Stan

What is the precise Vaio model #

Perhaps Sony has a driver or firmware to reinstall:

jephree, If I re-install this driver will it disconnect my MS mouse? Is this one of those things you have to live with one or another or is there something that I did when loading mouse that remove touch pad driver info.

I do not know. The driver/utility should reset the laptop to how it was originally.

Did you install any software with your mouse? If so the mouse software is most likely not necessary.

It might limit some of the mouse features but the mouse should still work without software.

You might also want to contact Sony and see if they have any ideas.

Thanks, I have download the driver and will reload and then not load the software for the mouse and see what happens. Your help has been great and cured all my little problems. Hopefully I am good for awhile now.
