hardware problem
hi the problem with my computer is that its speed accidentaly slowed down although its RAM is 512 MB. the computer gets hanged very oftenly.Earlier i installed Oracle 8i on my system and then immediately uninstalled it. Can it be a cause for the problem or the problem is due to viruses on my system. i have Norton antivirus installed on my system but it oftenly asks for updation.
Can u please suggest me any solution.

You have not given any specs about your PC other than it has 512MB RAM. Please advise CPU Speed, Hard Drive and free space left and which operating system you are using?
Thanks.

Hello, and Welcome to techhelpforum.
What O/S (Operating System) are you running? (98FE/SE, Win2000, XP Home, XP Pro, etc)
Have you cleaned out your Temporary Internet Files?
Have you cleaned out your Temporary files? (C:\Windows\Temp)
You could try CCleaner for the above (and more).

I suggested something in my post #3, and provided a link to a good system cleaner.
Please follow the instructions in post #3 and post back with your results. This is to be considered a first step, then we'll continue from there.

hi Dan, thanx for reply.i downloaded, installed nd run CCleaner (for cleaning internet nd temporary files) as per ur suggestion but the problem is still there. System's speed is slow nd it's taking considerable time recognising external devices like cds. nd pen drives don get recognised at all even when i wait for approx half an hr. i uninstalled norton antivirus from my system from add/remove programs of control panel but one more software associated with norton i.e. symantac live update not getting uninstalled.
is there any other solution?????

OK, next step, go here http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039, download the (XP) removal tool, and fully remove Norton. Don't reinstall Norton.
Here's further info on Norton removal http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_can...my_system.html
If you need a good (free) AntiVirus tool I recommend avast! http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
Registration is free and gets you updates for over a year. Simply re-register when this is up.
Then,
are there any yellow exclamation marks for any hardware in Device Manager? (Right click My Computer, choose Properties, Hardware, Device Manager.)
