I have just got a Dell Lattitude C610 PIII 1.2 Ghz with Windows XP Pro. While attempting to load my software, the compuer does not recognise the discs saying, 'Windows cannot read from the disk, The disk might be corrupt, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with windows.' I have tried other cd's i.e. XP cd's, Office cd's including audio CD's etc which i know work on other pc's laptops, the only disc that worked was a film on a dvd.
Can someone help me? Does the DVD Rom only read DVD's? or is theis particular drive possibly damaged? or is it a hardware problem?

DVD drives are listed as Removable Storage.

ID your specific player in the Device Manager:

Right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager then + next to DVD/CD-ROM drives

See if there is a firmware update for your particular drive.
