Gateway solo 5300 ethernet drivers??
Hi all
my friend has a laptop its a gateway solo 5300....Anyway he wanted me to clean it up and sort it out, put updates on etc...i found out that the version of xp it was running was an illegal copy, so he purchased a brand new copy and so i went ahead with the fresh installation,..all is fine with the laptop after the installation, apart from 1 thing, and thats the ethernet connection just isn't working at all.
I wanted to run all the updates for him before i gave it back so i went ahead and plugged in the ethernet cable and nothing, so i tried connecting my router directly to his laptop via ethernet and still nothing, it just doesnt seem to be working, ive looked everywhere for the answer but nothing ..
A friend has told me i need the ethernet controller drivers, but i cannot find them.., on the gateway website there is nothing!!
please help
Thanks in advance

Drivers Gateway lists for that laptop:
http://support.gateway.com/support/d...os=10406&type=
What do you mean by Nothing?
Do you mean you cannot get on-line?
If your copy of XP was/is pre SP1 this might help:

hi jephree thanks for the reply,
The link you have given is the website i have been to for the drivers.
But i can't find or don't know which ones are the correct ones for the ethernet card.
The xp i have installed is a brand new windows xp home edition with sp2.
What i mean is that when i plug in the ethernet cable from my router i cannot get it to pick it up, there is no pc icon in the taskbar indicating if there is ethernet connected or anything like that, also when i go into device manager under network adapters ther is nothing showing up for ethernet adapter at all
my friend thinks that i need the drivers for the ethernet controller?
hope this helps if you need more info i'll do my best.
Thanks in advance

According to the manual all the drivers were/are on the Gateway recovery CD.
You might want to call Gateway and check on other options.
