External video capture device not working
Hello,
I have an Adaptec 2200 OhVideo External Capture device that used to work perfectly. It is a box that converts analog to digital through a USB 2.0 port. It uses MYDVD software. It was working until I tried to use it with other software, ie Windows Movie Maker, Monkey jam animator, etc..
Appaerently it only functions with the software that it came with. I have unistalled it and reinstalled it several times. I have uninstalled the other programs mention above. The MYDVD software runs fine, except when I try to use the video capture portion. Sometimes I get an error screen that tells me no capture device contected, other times the capture preview window is just black/blank.
I am running the following:
eMachine W3050, AMD 3000+, 512DDR Sdram, 1.99 GHZ, Windows XP Home Edition, USB 2.0 port
I noticed in the device manager there are the following, which I don't remember seeing BEFORE installing the other software:
Legacy Video Codecs
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Is it possible that these items are the problem? I could not disable them.
I also ran the dxdiag to check and see if another program is trying to access the video capture device. A friend told me to check the BIOS? Not too sure about that one.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

In the Properties tab of
Legacy Video Codecs
Legacy Video Capture Devices
You should be able to remove the specific entries.
My only other thought is uninstall the software again and clean the registry before reinstalling. Ccleaner can do that for you:

Ironically I just downloaded the CCleaner a few minutes ago......I was thinking along the same lines...that maybe one of those other programs left something behind.....
i'll let you know....
and thanks again....
