Hi, my motherboard has a 4 pin or 8 pin psu power coonector. I am using the 4 pin with a intel duo 2 core 4300 prossorand it boots up and works fine but doesnt seem as quick as I had coped could the PSU be the problem. The mobo is an asus P5 delux wifi. Thanks
For full potential: Yes. That CPU definitely wants the 8 pin power. When you go to Core 2 Extreme (quad) there is also a different type of 8 pin connection required for the full potential.
The above supplied by Enermax which make the best PSU's IMHO.
Thanks jephree,
I have seen 4 pin adaptots that connect to an ordinary 'straight 4 pin' plug. Would this be ok to connect to the remaining 4 pins or should I get a new PSU (this one is new and said it was ompatible with 'the latest intel technology'.
Thanks
What is the make and model of the PSU?
I see adapters such as this but I do not know how they affect performance:
8-Pin to 4-Pin ATX Adapter Cable - 4 Inches - Sleeved

It is a cooler master extreme power 500w (RP 500 PCAP)

I think the adapter is worth a try but there are other variables to consider.
When you say speed are you just referring to the overall response of the computer? Did you just upgrade the CPU or is this a new build?
What RAM are you using? This is the note from ASUS:
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...79&modelmenu=1Dual-Channel DDR2 800
DDR2 is the next generation memory technology to replace the current DDR. With the highest speed up to 800MHz, DDR2 memory provides great performance for 3D graphics and other memory demanding applications.
Kingston® HyperX® PC2-8500 Ready (default overclock at 1066 MHz)
The Kingston HyperX PC2-8500 is high-frequency memory that delivers outstanding performance. Built with only the best components, the P5B Deluxe and PC2-8500 HyperX memory are optimized for each other to reach maximum performance. Both are validated for stability and compatibility.
*The Kingston DIMM modules are not included in ASUS motherboard package.
That Kingston RAM looks good. Did you get that or ... ?
That is a very nice board and I am sure it can be over-clocked as well if you are into that kind of stuff.
I got 1gig of crucial memory. The PC is a new build but it doesn't seem any quicker (booting up, loading programs etc) than my AMD 2100+ I built 4 years ago so, while it works I'm wondering if the processor isn't functioning fully due to the lack of pins (power)from the PSU. The board is ok but the graphics card covers 1 of only 3 ordinary slots so its a good job I dont have a 2nd graphics card for crossfire or need anything else installed other than a sound card- bad design. It automatically overclocks -you have to set the bios not to if you dont want to. I wasn't into overclocking but I am now by default.
