Got a strange one! I can play DVD's on my cd dvd drive but not CD's. I want to load them on to my itunes but it just starts a clicking sound and then says the drive is empty.
I brought an external drive but this won't transfer the tunes across even though itunes will pick up the name and tracks.
ANY THOUGHTS!?!?!!?

In most cases this problem is due to a failed CD laser.

These drives have separate lasers for CD and DVD.

If this is the case the only solution is to replace the drive.
