just wondering.. can a HD with OS installed be hooked up as a slave drive?

hi, first post on the board.

i am curious about something. the OS (win xp pro) on my old hard drive (Western Digital WD300 30gig) had something go horribly wrong with it. i bought a new hard drive and installed win xp pro SP2 on it. so its several months later, and i am curious if it is possible to use the old HD (with malfunctioning OS) as a slave drive. like somehow boot off of the master (new drive) and bypass the OS on the old drive (set on slave) just to get some of my documents that are still on it? might be a dumb question, or totally impossible but i figured i would ask

    thanks for any replies!

Hi and welcome to the THF. Yes it is quite possible to have the old hd as a slave. I have the same setup here. The original drive threw a huge error so I bought a new one, installed the OS and hooked the old up as a slave.
All the old windows files are still on it and I could get into most of the old documents. I still use a lot of the software on that drive as well and use it as a backup for documents and downloads.
