    Random restarting

Hi, I just purchased a bunch of PC components and after installing everything the system restarts for no reason, just like if you pressed the reset button. I don't think its the PSU cuz I just set up my old AMD XP 3000 1.2ghz in the new case with the new PSU and it has been running like gravy for about 6 hours. Ok, here is my new setup: Pentium D 2.8ghz, ECS P4M800PRO-M motherboard, GSkill 1gig DDR2 533mhz RAM, Raidmax Aurora 580watt PSU. Does anyone know what could be causing the system to randomly restart? CPU temp, even after running for hours, stays around 30-31 degrees celsius, so its not overheating, and the system doesn't restart when it is being taxed, it's very random, the last two times it happened it was right after I loaded Windows. Also, I ran CPU Burn for a few minutes and everything was fine. I also ran a memory test on my RAM for about an hour and it produced zero errors. Please help!!!

Did you do a Clean Install of XP on the new motherboard?

Have you run a diagnostic on your hard drive?

If it is restarting from Windows change this setting in order to get error messages:

Right click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery/Settings

Under System Failure UNcheck Automatically Restart.

yes, i just did a clean install - again - of Windows XP on a reformatted harddrive and am waiting for it to restart so i can receive the error message... i will let you know what it says when it happens

as a sidenote, i've been doing some research and have seen many others with the same model of motherboard (P4M800PRO-M) that are having the same exact problem - it appears the board doesn't handle any types of DDR2 very well, and the manual only lists two manufacturers of DDR2 PC4200/533 **1GB** that are compatible with the board - this board is extremely touchy when it comes to the DDR2 RAM. ECS tech support had said earlier to manually set the DRAM speed. I have 1 gig of GSkill DDR2 PC4200 533 that uses Samsung chips (may be to blame)... after the last CMOS clear my board is now reading the RAM at 400 not the 533 that my RAM is... I went into BIOS and manually adjusted the DRAM speed to 400 and havn't had any problems yet - i'm not holding my breath and, even if the problem is fixed for now, plan on returning the board... you get what you pay for. i will be back with an update as to the status of this problem. isn't it illegal to sell such bad equipment? should be :armed:
