DDR1 n DDR2 ram issues
i'm new to this site, so hopefully i'm not asking a question that's already asked.
can a DDR2 ram be used on a board that only supports DDR1 ram? a friend of mine told me that it can be done, but he gave me no explanation and sometimes he's rather unreliable.
another issue i'm facing is my computer sometime suddenly just hangs. it works perfectly find, but just hangs all of a sudden. scanned and found no viruses nor adware/spyware.
thanks in advance.

DDR vs. DDR2 - What it means to you.

Basically the DDR2 would be backwards compatible but it really depends on your motherboard. Some over 5 years old might be too backwards. This tool will ID your board and also RAM in great detail:

By hangs do you mean freeze? Do you have to shut it down? Or do you mean it is just slow at times?
Look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for red X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

thanks for the quick relpy. appreciate that alot.
i havent run the CPU-Z app yet as i'm now actually outside, but what is it from the test that can ascertain whether my CPU can support DDR2 or not? the motherboard i'm using is Intel's D101Ggc board if that's any help.
regarding the red "x" errors, i'll most probably have to wait till the next time my computer hangs, i restart and check then isn't it? cause... i don't remember the time specifically.
by hang i mean it just freezes. doesnt slow down at all. it runs perfectly one second and the next thing i know it just stops.
