I thought the voltage switch was set to 230 on back of Compaq Presario. It was set to 115 and I plugged it into a 230 outlet. Poof. Can it be fixed? Will a new power supply do it or is the motherboard and hard drive fried?

Try a new Power Supply. There is a good chance that the damage began and ended there.
