I am really struggling, i'll try to explain why. A few months ago i bought a maxtor external USB harddrive to store all my songs etc on and it was working fine. it was plug and play so i'd plug it in, turn it on, it would give a bit of a whir and come up in My Computer as E:/ drive, New Volume. Everything would copy to it nicely and so on. The other day i turned on the HD and it wouldn't work properly. This is what happens:
It comes up as "found new disk drive" balloon (disk drive has a name in Taiwanese or something, never been like that before), and "found new storage device" balloon and goes to automatically install. after about ten minutes it says installation is complete and ready to use. Then there is no E:/ drive in my computer and i cannot open the programs i have shortcutted to the external drive. The "safely remove hardware" thing has both the drive and the mass storage device listed. The HDD does not make the same whirring noise it once did when working properly. The device appears in computer manager but not in the disk drive section, only in the device section. it basically seems there is no E drive, and the computer is not fully responding to the device, even though it reads its presence. i have tried a few things as recommended in troubleshooter and a few different web sites, yet all the uninstalling and reinstalling and the like is pointless. everytime i plug in the usb my laptop starts installing it again. if it is any help the same thing also happened to my mobile phone tools app the other day, and i had to insert the software and reinstall it again. though my sisters usb stick went straight to E:/ when i used that.
If anyone can solve this for me i will be greatly indebted and owe you the world. some of the music on there is the only copies my band have of some of our songs.
Please explain things simply though, because i know a little about computers, but i'm def not a whizz.
