I have an abit it7 max2 motherboard which has an intel pentium 4 processor 2.6 ghz I was wondering I have a chnace to get a free intel celeron d processor 2.9 ghz will this proccessor work in my motherboard and is it a useful upgrade?

I don't know if it would work in your motherboard but it wouldn't be worth it anyway. The P4 processor works at a higher rate than any of the Celerons do. The Celeron would run a lot hotter and would struggle with most labour intensive programs such as games play, video editing etc.
The P4 2.6 is what i would use all the way
