    no audio/sound

Well, I think my audio either went on strike or on vacation because its no longer on my computer. THere is no sound icon in my task bar, and if i go to control panel - sound audio devices, it says nothing is installed. (my audio was working before, I havent installed anything new or changed hdware configurations)
I checked device Manager, and it says all my audio devices are working properly. but if I go to the properties of my audio device it says *this driver has been enabled but has not yet been started*. Ive tried using microsoft help/support trouble shooting thing, but that doesnt work, ive uninstalled my drivers and took out the sound card (btw its a creative sb:audigy), and put it back in, and reinstalled the drivers. Ive also dl all possible updates, patches firware etc
but still no sound. neways to narrow down the possibilitys of what is wrong here is my comp set up, and what ive tried

    Comp.
    MB:AsusP4P800
    CPU:3.2GHZ
    MeM:1.5GB
    HD:200GB
    Audio:Creative:SB Audigy:Audigy
    OS:Windows XP SP2

    What Ive tried so far
1)tried speakers on a differnt computer, they work
    2)dusted out speaker port holes
3)changed pci slot to another slot
    4)used microsoft help (troubleshooting)
    5)uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers
    6)disabled onboard sound devices
7)made sure i picked my creative sound card as my primary sound device.

    Things to note.
-on Device Manager, there are no errors or (!) marks on any of my audio devices.
    -ive also updated all drivers
-if I go to properties on my audio device it says *its enabled but not yet started"
-if i go to ctrl panel-audio/sound-it says no audio devices have been installed.

thanks to anyone that can help

    Hi Pokeh,

If you go control Panel->sounds and audio->sounds tab..........try setting it to "windows default"......

Do you get the WinXP shutdown sounds? Or NO sound at all?

When you uninstalled drivers did you reboot before installing them fresh, and then reboot again?

It "could" be your sound card, but I question that at this stage..........

If you attempt to play an MP3 or any sound file......is there an error logged in your event viewer? If so, can you post it?

Let's at least try to get off to a start..........

    hey, thanks for quick reply.
    1) yes its on windows default.
2)what I did was uninstall first the creative stuff from the add remove programs. then Ive uninstalled from device manager (the ones relating to my sound card)
3)I shut down my computer, and tried using a different pci slot. it detects my sound card, and it reinstalled the neccessary drivers. no (!) or errors given to my by device manager.

4)my sound was working before, it just somehow went away (no sound at all)

Ok, so as I read it now......you have your sound card using Microsoft Drivers? Because usually a sound card has it's own drivers......sssssuch as realtek etc........do you have a motherboard disk? If so, I would insert it and see if you "could" have missed something.

Other than that, the fact that part of the system is saying one thing, and part is saying another, would sugest a system error..........you could try typing "sfc /scannow" into run.......without the quotes, and look at the space between sfc and /...........you might already know that but I am presuming you might not to save you some time..........

It still would not hurt to have a look in your event viewer around the time or day that the sound stopped......

if i go to ctrl panel (audio/sound) audio tab, there is no other selection other then windows default (other then the NO sound option)

Ive tried the mb disk as well already, nothing in there or at least my comp wont detect any audio driver files.

I will try what uve said and I will post my results a bit later, thanks for all your help so far I really appreciate it

Pokeh, the MB disk will look at drivers from the Hardware device manager..........not the audio/sound tab........

OK, that happens a lot. Do you have the drivers on a disk? If so......uninstall the MSoft ones and put in the ones for your card.

I am not sure moving your card is such a good idea.........perhaps try it back where it was working..........

If none of this helps, even after sfc.......I would guess the sound card may be gone......but hopefully someone more experienced will come along........
