    Talking Strange Laptop problem

Hello All. I have a problem that i think is quite unique... my craptop..i mean laptop is a n older Athlon XP 1800 with 756 MB or ram. I've had it for a few years and about a month ago the left button on the on-board mouse stopped working. Ok, so i then tried using a PS/2 and a USB mouse...same thing. So this makes me think it's some sort of hardware problem...but i'm not certain what to check next? I'd appreciate any help.

    Thank you

Hello scionsfiktion, welcome to the forum

When you say the 'onboard mouse', do you mean the touchpad?
If so, would recommend going to the Synaptics website and install the latest drivers for the touchpad. There are a host of different settings you can activate/de-activate through the latest drivers.
If that doesn't work i would start looking towards a possible hardware problem, although that sounds remote at this stage.

Wait are you saying on the ps2 and usb mouse only the left mouse button did not work?

    Thanks,

ok, i did try downloading and installing that driver and it worked beautifully....for about ten minutes... then back to normal. And to you Jimerson, yes, regardless if i'm using the touchpad with the two mouse buttons built into the laptop, or a usb or ps/2 mouse...the left button stops working. If i go into the mouse settings and choose to "switch" buttons, it works fine... well that is..the right button does..but again the left isn't? I'd think it's a hardware problem, except i even tried a brand new mouse...so it's something to do inside...but i'm at a loss as to what else to try?
