power troubles after new power supply installed
maybe someone can help, I installed a new power supply in my sisters emachine model T1842 has 1.8ghz intel celeron and pretty much the basic competer, originally there was power surges and finally blew the power supply, installed a new one things were fine for over an hour. then shut down the computer. tried to restart the computer and had no power, have already cleared cmos and still nothing. is it possible for the power switch on the front is bad or could i have bought a bad power supply. sure would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Hi,
Quite possible that you might have gotten a bad one, because all of us who build computers get one of those at times. The quality of the power supply might also figure into your problem, because there are so many off brands and cheap ones out there that just won't do the job for you.
If you want to see if it is the switch, go to the back of the switch in the case and follow those two wires that come out of the switch down to where they fit on the motherboard (front panel header), slip the two wire connector off (being careful to see where they came from) and take a paper clip and shot across those two little pins the wires were on. Don't do it for a long time, but if the computer is plugged in and starts, then the switch is usually gone. If it does not come on, then you have another problem and not the switch to deal with.
