Computer won't boot up
Hi,
I have an emachines t2958 mocel computer that will not power up. When I press the e to turn the power on, there is no whirring sound like there used to be, which I assume to be 1 of the fans, and the only thing that happens is a blue light around the e comes on. I took the cover off to take a look, but not being a computer expert I'm not sure what I am looking for. LOL If anyone knows what the problem could be, or could even tell me what to look for when I power it on, and maybe can let you know from that, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Things you might want to do to check further:
1) Make sure that all wires in the case are fastened properly. Check especially the front panel header where most of them fasten on the motherboard.
2) Follow the wires that come out of the off/on switch down to the motherboard, and pull them off the two pins (making sure you know where they came from) and take a paper clip and short across (just for a couple of seconds only) those two pins and see if the computer starts....if it does, you have a bad switch.
3) Double check to make sure someone did not bump the switch on the back of the power supply that might have moved it to 220 instead of 110 for the voltage.
4) Some cases have a stop with open case feature, so make sure your case is not open and try to turn it on to check that.
5) Check carefully that your heatsink fan wire has not come dislodged from the motherboard, because that will sometimes shut them off.
Post back and yes, I forgot to mention, that the previous poster was correct, it could very well just be a faulty power supply. The process I gave you should help to eliminate other possible problems.
