When I install a modem in some of my machines, I sometimes will forget to pull the power cord from the PC. When I put the modem in the PCI slot, the machine will turn on. When I try and shut down the machine, it will turn on again. When I take the modem out, the machine will turn off normally. When I unplug it and re-install the modem, I'll power the machine on, but when I try and shut down the machine down, it will power back on by itself.

This is my thought. I think the machine is rejecting the modem, maybe the modem is bad. I installed another modem and it works fine.

Go into the bios and check the boot on settings their should be one called boot on modem or something to that affect. Turn it off and give that a try
