Looks like your PC may not be detecting the drive. Did you check the connections? Also, can you see a little icon for the drive in "My Computer"?
When you put a CD in the drive, does the disk spin up?
Thanks,
i didnt take the compuer apart..
there is an icon ofr it in my computer i tried putting the disc in then clicking it..it just comes up with an error message.."insert disc",
the dvd does spin when i put it in i can hear it.

Unfortunately it sounds to me like the laser on your drive may have died.
Go to Device Manager [start>right click on 'my computer'>select properties>select hardware>select device manager.]
Look for any '!' marks at the side of your DVD drive. Is there anything there?
no..nothing like that at all..when i click the drive from there it comes up with an "insert disc" error,,even though there is a dvd in the drive,.Originally Posted by Vidster
Is it the same with a CD as well?
no the cd drive works well...im experementing with codec s right now.what do u think?Originally Posted by Vidster
The drive isn't recognising the disks. I doubt Codecs will help. Anything is worth a try though
The only other thing i can think of is looking for a firmware upgrade but i don't know much about that :?
By coincidence, we have a E-machines system here and the CD drive stopped working on that after about 18 months.
