I'm not too savvy on processors and graphics etc so i need your help in choosing a new laptop. I have a maximum budget of £600. I know it's not a lot for a laptop but i want the best i can get for the money.
The laptop will be in the house for 99% of it's life, will never be used for gaming. I do need something capable of running multiple applications at once though, Dreamweaver MX, Photoshop7 and Firefox at the same time for example. I have a spare 512mb RAM waiting for any laptop i buy.
Here is what i found so far:
Mobeus 1.4
Mesh Pegasus 15"
Acer Aspire 3022
Acer Travelmate (Can have this for £549)
The Moebus has won a few group reviews because of it's amazing screen and build quality. I have no idea how powerful the processor would be though?
The Mesh and the Acer Aspire 3022 were head to head and the Mesh won because of the software package. Not something that applies to me. The Acer Aspire apparently won the benchmarking tests and i quite like the widescreen idea.
The Travelmate is on offer until next Monday, reduced from £700 so i thought i would add it.
I'd love for someone to take the time out to look at them and give some advice.

I'd go for the Travenlmate. Celeron = Crap, and AMD == Power Hungry chips.
Also, 1gb ram min for anything dealing with Photoshop, 512mb just doesn't cut it :S
Thanks CameronThe 512MB RAM is just to add to what the laptop comes with so on that one i'd have 1GB anyway.
What if the power wasn't a problem? This laptop is going to be connected to the mains 99% of the time.
Vidster, you will need that extra ram chip, but I can assure you that 1GB RAM will run CS extremely smooth on Intel.Originally Posted by Vidster
I hope you have made extra sure that the laptop takes that much ram.
I have used AMD before, and they just don't cut it with the speed. I'm with Cameron, go with the intel, and I looked at them all too.
Ah, BTW, that laptop I bought? It's so heavy carting it through airports......I am NOT sorry, just insane:eyespop:
I've pretty much settled on that one now Orphelia. The only problem is that offer runs out on Monday and i don't know if my insurance cheque is going to clear in time
If not, i think I'll go down and have a word with the store manager to see if they can make an exception.
It will take up to 2GB RAM but that would be overkill for what I'm going to be doing.
Your laptop might be heavy but i bet it kicks butt, no matter what you want to run on it
Thanks for the feedback Orphelia
